Thank you to everyone who came to see my Open Studios on the July weekends. I really enjoyed the experience and it was lovely to meet so many people. As it was the first time I had participated, I wasn’t sure what to expect. In the end I had a good number of people come along. Some were people I knew and some were not and it was lovely to chat to both.
I was very flattered by the positive response to my work and the lovely comments in my visitors’ book. A lot of people were keen to encourage me to put my work up on my website and get my website up and running properly. I am in the process of doing this and hopefully pictures of the prints will be coming to the website very soon.
The positive feedback that I received has made me a bit more confident that there is a place for my work; that it is appreciated and that it is saleable.
In between visitors, I was able to carry on carving my next project ready for printing, and by the end of the Open Studios I was able to take a proof print. This has enabled me to see areas that need a little bit more carving. Hopefully I will get the time, in the next few days, to do some more carving and then some printing…. watch this space……
I will definitely be participating in the Open Studios next year.
I can’t believe that this weekend (27/28 July) will be the last weekend of the Cambridgeshire Open Studios. This has been my first Open Studio and it has been a big challenge but really rewarding. I have produced some 20 or so pieces of varying design which are all on display.
It would be lovely to welcome anyone who would like to see my artwork and see my Studio in use.
During the previous Open Studio weekends in July I have been working on a new design, which I have carved onto my block. This weekend I will be running the block through the press to see where I need to carve some more and hopefully follow that with some successful final prints
It has been really lovely to meet people coming to the Gallery, some are artists themselves and some are not and it has been very interesting and rewarding to hear what everyone has to say.
Some comments from visitors to the Gallery;
- ‘Dramatic and beautiful prints. Thank you for showing us’
- ‘Amazing and beautiful work’
- ‘Fantastic work as expected, Well done’
- ‘Fabulous! – well done Beautiful work….’
- ‘So interesting to learn about your work. It is so good’
- ‘Excellent work, Thanks for the chat’
I will be opening my studio from 11am – 6pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July. Come and browse my exhibition of lino prints and see how to print from the lino using an Etching Press.
Come and visit the Gallery at 108 High Street, Yelling and see printing demonstrations in the Studio.
Amazing to think that we’re well into the second weekend now of Open Studios. It has been lovely to meet everyone and hear their comments.
When it has been quiet in the studio, it has been possible to design and start carving a new piece. I have decided to create a large design, the full size of the tiles that I use for printing, so this one is 30cm x 30cm.
The new design has been inspired by one of my sketches and the glorious poppies that we had in the garden this year. The poppies are all gone now, (replaced with an abundance of roses) but they were stunning.
I don’t know how far I will get with the carving today, but it’s coming along bit by bit.
You are very welcome to come along and see the studio and gallery, it is open all the weekends in July, from 11am till 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
I can’t believe it’s only 25 Days to go! In the meantime, I need to finish all the Cambridge Open Studio preparations, clean the house ready for visitors coming to stay and tidy up my Studio.
At the moment I have 20 prints framed and ready to be hung, plus those that I plan to put into a display rack. I’ve also got some greetings cards printed and some that are made from prints all ready to be put on a card rack. It’s just a case of finishing everything off and tidying up, ready for the 6th of July.
It’s now 6 months till the Open Studios in July, and still a lot of work to do getting the rooms ready and getting my work ready for sale.
I am preparing for the Cambridge Open Studios in July, and am trying to get my prints finished and framed as I know that as we approach July time will disappear very fast!
The Cambridge Open Studios is where nearly 500 artists, craftspeople and designer-makers in Cambridgeshire open their studios and invite the public to come and visit them for some or all of the 4 weekends in July. They (Cambridge Open Studio – COS) produce a booklet to advertise all the studios available to visit, but it is possible to view participating artists on their website. Click on the link below –
